After ten years of “relationship” with her husband, my friend Misha found that he had lost his heart to another woman Nayanika. She went through the trauma of a bad marriage, separation and finally a divorce. Misha had only one child. I would often help her babysit her seven year old daughter in the evening when she would go out and work part time in a coaching center for some extra income. Circumstances had forced her to do that since the courts had not decided on the maintenance alimony for the child. Misha was obviously very hurt and would often miss her husband and weep. Her daughter Mrinal seemed to be very brave through all this; her mind might have had many questions but her eyes always had a twinkle. Mrinal’s sole aim seemed to give Misha complete happiness and see her smile.
One such evening when I had gone to their house to babysit, I learnt it was Misha’s birthday and Mrinal was preparing to celebrate her dear Mom’s birthday. Her angelic smile was conveying that she wanted to do so much for her mother despite having limited means. She politely said.
